md-viewer — Claude Code Plugin

A Claude Code plugin that lets Claude automatically display markdown files in a live local browser viewer. Files load instantly and the view auto-refreshes every 3 seconds — no manual reload needed.

What it does

Ask Claude naturally:

"Show me report.md" "Preview this markdown file" "Display the output as a rendered doc"

Claude will start a local server (if not already running), load the file, and open the browser automatically. The viewer stays open and updates live as Claude loads new files.

Requirements

• Claude Code (CLI, desktop, or VS Code extension)
• Node.js v18+

Install

Via Claude Code UI

1. Download md-viewer.zip from Releases
2. Open Claude Code settings → Skills → Upload skill
3. Drag and drop the zip file

Via command line

git clone https://github.com/maxrs/md-viewer
cd md-viewer
npm install --prefix server

Then copy the folder to your Claude plugins directory, or add the marketplace URL in Claude Code settings.

Usage

/md-viewer path/to/file.md

Or just describe what you want — Claude will invoke the skill automatically when you ask to view or preview markdown.

How it works

A local Express server runs on localhost:3456. Claude writes file paths into a manifest JSON file. The browser polls the manifest every 3 seconds and re-renders — no WebSocket, no complex setup.

All rendering is local. No internet connection required after install.
